Your Roanoke, VA Dog Trainer
Each of our professional dog trainers has their own story which led them into the world of dog training. They are often motiviated by a number of factors – for example, their love for animals; their desire to improve human-canine relationships; or simply their enjoyment of dog training itself. Often, it is a combination of some or all of these factors.
For David, there is a personal story that drives his ambition to help dog owners in Roanoke, as he explains:
“When I was a teenager, my mom had to surrender the only dog we ever had to a shelter. We got her as a puppy from a litter in the neighborhood.
Candy was a true mutt and I adored her, but she barked a lot. I was the only child of a single mom who worked really hard to provide the essentials for us. We didn’t have a car and required housing on the bus line. My mom feared we would be evicted because of Candy’s barking, and eventually chose to take her to the shelter. It was the worst day of my life.
As I got older, I often dreamed that when I got a car, I would be able to drive over to the shelter and Candy would still be there waiting for me.
Music helped me through my grief, and led to a long career in radio broadcasting. My second dog came when I was just starting out in radio. I went back to that same shelter and adopted a mutt named Records, and haven’t been without a dog since. My wife and I now have a large adopted family of four dogs, a horse, and a cat who runs the show.
As a Master Dog Trainer, my goal is to help you strengthen your relationship with your dog and improve the quality of your lives. In the bigger picture, my hope is to keep pet dogs out of shelters, sparing other families the grief of surrendering a beloved dog because they don’t have the knowledge or resources to change behaviors.”
