At Highland Canine Training, our trainers offer puppy training classes to help build fundamental behaviors that will last a lifetime. We have extensive experience of working with puppies of varying breeds and temperaments, enabling you to start a healthy, mutually beneficial relationship with your new pup.

When you bring a new puppy into your home, it is natural to be excited – you have selected a dog who will grow into a valued family member in next to no time! Along with other factors, your puppy’s early experiences will have a significant impact on their development.

Your puppy will undergo some critical developmental milestones in their first year. Working with your puppy during this time is vital. For example, making sure they are enjoying positive socialization outings, and teaching them basic obedience commands, will truly set your puppy up for success for the rest of their life. Puppy Group Class Training

Effective, affordable training for your puppy

Our puppy group classes are a fun, effective and affordable way to introduce your puppy to the world of dog training!

Led by our professional dog trainers, our puppy class curriculum will teach your puppy all the basic obedience commands, including Sit, Stay, Heel, Recall, Place and Leave It. We’ll also explain how dogs actually learn new behaviors, and tips on how to ensure your puppy behaves consistently in a variety of different settings.

Our puppy training classes take place in a controlled, relaxed and welcoming environment. All puppy classes are on-leash. For your puppy, these positive experiences around others will help to establish environmental stability. They will also give you the confidence to control your pup in a variety of situations.

Basic Obedience Puppy Class ($159)

Explore the curriculum for our most popular puppy class

Lasting for six weeks, in our basic obedience puppy class, your puppy will learn the following commands:

Sit
Down
Stay
Heel
Recall
Place
Leave It

Your puppy will also have the opportunity to socialize in a controlled setting, under the supervision of a professional dog trainer. There may also be the opportunity to introduce your dogs to other forms of training, including trick training or clicker training.

Our trainer will also explain the following concepts as part of this program:

Introduction to how puppies learn
How to generalize dog behavior in different settings
The importance of mental stimulation
How to properly socialize your dog

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program ($159)

Start your puppy towards their Canine Good Citizen title

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program runs for seven weeks and is based on four core principles:

Socialization

Training

Activity

Responsible ownership

These classes provide valuable information and essential training tips. The S.T.A.R. Puppy Program teaches dog owners about responsible ownership and the importance of regular activity and socialization.

A puppy can be enrolled in the S.T.A.R. Puppy Program at any point prior to their first birthday. This program is a good stepping stone if you intend to pursue the AKC Canine Good Citizen title.
