Scenario-Based Police K9 Training
Engaging dog teams in real-world scenarios during training is the most effective method for preparing them for operational environments. We employ scenario-based training in each of our police k9 handler courses and trainers schools to ensure that we create the most effective teams possible. Our scenario-based training mimics real-life events that handlers are likely to be faced with in the field.
The stagnant training techniques that have been used for years in the k9 community will continue to produce mediocre results. Scenario-based police k9 training has proven to be effective in raising the confidence of the handler prior to field operations as well as developing k9 teams that are safer. Our experienced staff of instructors have years of operational experience that allows us to create the most life-like scenarios possible.
Police K9 Handler Training
Our police K9 handler courses are offered at our dog training center in North Carolina and generally last for either 3 or 4 weeks. Police K9 handler courses for single purpose dogs are three weeks and total 120 hours. Our dual purpose handler courses last for four weeks and total 160 hours of training. We include basic equipment, course materials, and lodging with the purchase of any or our working dogs.
We offer the most comprehensive Police K9 Handler Training programs available in the industry. Our courses are taught by experts in the industry with real-life experience. With police and military backgrounds, our instructors understand the environments and difficulties that are faced by handlers and can help to better prepare handlers for the field. We utilize a proven curriculum for our handler courses and each handler is provided with individual instruction and opportunities to get answers to questions that they have. Our handler training takes you step-by-step through each aspect of the police dogs training in a way that is easy to understand and apply. Unlike many other programs, we teach handlers the basic fundamentals of how their dogs were trained. This knowledge and understanding provides major benefits when problem solving any issues that arise in later training or field activities. Our handlers courses include online training materials that are yours to keep to serve as a reference.
Police K9 handler training courses can be customized to fit departmental needs and are taught by current and former law enforcement and military handlers. The course includes real-life, scenario based police K9 training and lecture on topics such as Basic and Advanced Obedience, Record Keeping and Report Writing, Tactical Building Searches, Proper Decoy Techniques, Channeling the Police Dog through Drive, Felony Vehicle Stops / High Risk Apprehensions, Tactical Tracking / Trailing, Establishing an Effective Perimeter for Patrol, Conducting Proper Demonstrations, Canine Case Law, Effective Prosecution of K9 Detection Cases, Care and Maintenance, and First Aid, and much more. Police K9 Certification
Certification and Validation of K9 teams is an important aspect of police k9 training. Certification demonstrates reliability in the field and develops credibility in court. Therefore, we offer a variety of options to ensure that our police dogs are certified in a way that meet departmental needs. At the end of each handler school, we offer our scenario-based certification so that teams are ready to hit the streets, day one. We also offer annual re-certification for FREE for agencies who have purchased dogs from us.
In addition, we can also train police dogs to exceed the requirements of the certifying body used by your agency. Over the years we have trained dogs to meet the standards of the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA), North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA), International Police Work Dog Association (IPWDA), and many others.

Our School for Dog Trainers boasts some of the most comprehensive training courses for those who are looking to get the most from their canine education. We offer 6, 8 and 12-week Police K9 Trainer / Instructor courses so that you can learn as much as you want.
Our courses are designed to give you the knowledge you need through lectures and discussion, but more importantly, our courses give you the hands-on training and experience that you will need to be successful. In our Police K9 Instructor Courses you will learn various aspects of training drug and bomb dogs, police patrol dogs, tracking / trailing dogs in addition to techniques for effectively training police k9 handlers.
Our School for Dog Trainers is licensed by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges. The North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges is not an accrediting agency. Our 12-week Police K9 Instructor Course accepts GI Bill® and VA Benefits for those who are eligible and wish to attend. We also offer fully furnished, on-site housing for those who attend our programs as well as transportation and airport pickup for those traveling to our School for Dog Trainers.
