Wendy Hasenbalg
Your Galax, VA Dog Trainer
Wendy Hasenbalg grew up in Simla, Colorado. She attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where she played basketball and took coursework in Sports Psychology.
Wendy joined the US Army in July 1996 and served as a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter Standardization Instructor. She retired from the US Army in 2016 having served for 20 years, including travel to 17 countries and 3 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Wendy began her retirement in Greenville NC where she interacted with other Veterans and observed the need for support. Her love of training her own dogs (Gabbi, Carson), combined with the sense of support they provided to her, led her to explore dog training on a formal basis. Having worked several hours with her sister-in-law, a member of the K9 unit of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, to train a newly adopted GSD and observe training of other dogs, Wendy knew that she was on the right path.
In January 2020, she attended the 24-week Master Dog Trainer program at the School for Dog Trainers. She graduated with a Master Dog Trainer Certificate, Student Excellence Certificate and as an Honor Graduate. Her favorite elements of the course were Student Excellence and Service Dog Training, because of the complexity of the puzzles presented.
Wendy currently lives on a 4-acre property with a brook and rolling hills in Fries, Virginia. The location is ideal for providing a safe and interesting environment for dogs and dog owners to train.
Wendy says, “I especially love watching the dogs work, they love to please and want to do everything to be a “good” dog. As humans, we have to figure out what language we need to use to communicate with our dogs.”

Wendy is proud to offer a variety of dog training services in Galax. These include:
We are proud to offer Board and Train programs for our clients in southern Virginia.
Our Board & Train programs allow you to leave your dog with our professional dog trainer for three or six weeks. During that time, we will work with your dog on a daily basis to resolve problematic behaviors. When you pick up your dog, we’ll show you how to maintain your dog’s new behaviors.
Contact Wendy for more information on our Board and Train programs. Our evaluations are free and our training programs are guaranteed for the life of the dog.
Our private lessons and behavioral modification programs help you to achieve the results you need with your dog.
With private lessons, our trainers come to your home once per week. Following an initial evaluation, our trainers use their knowledge and experience to develop an action plan to help you achieve your goals. We place importance on teaching owners the best way to maintain these behaviors for the future.
All of our training programs are guaranteed and include free follow-up training for the life of the dog.
Our trainers offer a wide variety of group dog training classes. This is perfect for socializing your dog in a safe environment. Meeting other pups and different people in a group class setting helps your dog to adapt to new environments and learn new skills.
Our curriculum includes basic obedience, advanced obedience, foundational search and rescue, scent work and puppy classes among others. These classes typically run for six weeks, with classes taking place once a week.
For more information on upcoming group dog training classes, take a look at our calendar, or contact Wendy today!
