Chris Urban

Chris Urban is Highland Canine Training’s professional dog trainer, serving Cranbrook, BC and the surrounding areas.
Chris grew up in the Kootenays in the town of Cranbrook, located in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. When Chris was growing up, his family always had dogs. After marrying his wife, they both got into rescue dogs, where they focused on Italian Greyhounds. At that point, Chris’s wife wanted a Pitbull – they named him Joe, and he is the dog that Chris describes as changing his life forever.
“Joe needed training,” says Chris. “I tried everything I knew, but it wasn’t enough. I reached out for help, and that’s when my road to becoming a master dog trainer began.”
Chris is a graduate of the Master Dog Trainer program at the School for Dog Trainers. The program lasts for 24 weeks, and covers all aspects of dog training.
Chris explains his motivation and experience as a dog trainer.
“I want to help improve people’s relationships with their dogs. On the road to develop my training style, I worked under many people, and found many different inspirations. I got involved with Dock Diving, agility training, trick training, freestyle along with rally and overall obedience training.”
Outside of the world of dog training, Chris is a also a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He spent several years on the road playing music, seeing many different cities and working across several genres of music.

With private lessons, our trainers come to your home once per week. Following an initial evaluation, our trainers use their knowledge and experience to develop an action plan to help you achieve your goals. We place importance on teaching owners the best way to maintain these behaviors for the future.
All of our training programs are guaranteed and include free follow-up training for the life of the dog.
