Born in Bridgeport, OH, Jessa Morgan moved to the Carolinas when she was very young. Her childhood dog, Rex, was a shelter pup and showed her how amazing life could be with a furry friend by her side. She knew her career would be dog-related – but how?
After Rex passed away, she rescued Daisy and then added Shadow, a husky/corgi mix, to the pack. After Shadow started to show aggression and bit a few guests at her home, Jessa knew she had to do something, and attended a dog behavior clinic which was being hosted by Highland Canine. At the clinic, Shadow was evaluated and Jessa received guidance on how to train him to resolve his behavioral issues.
As she worked with Shadow, Jessa realized that becoming a dog trainer would be a perfect fit for her. However, she had no idea about the business side of the industry. After graduating high school, Jessa attended York Technical College where she gained an Associate’s degree in business management, specializing in entrepreneurship. While attending college, Jessa worked at a dog daycare/boarding facility for two years, where her love for dogs grew and she became interested in dog behavior.
After college, Jessa attended the School for Dog Trainers and then interned at Highland Canine for six months to gain more knowledge in the dog training field. Jessa had the opportunity to work with clients in a one-on-one setting where she trained dogs with fear and dominance aggression issues, participated in group classes, and was involved in service dog deliveries.
“It’s amazing to see how dogs learn, regardless if you are training a pet dog or a service dog,” says Jessa. “Learning to communicate with your dog and understanding what your dog is trying to communicate back is one of the biggest issues I see between owners and their dogs. I had that same problem, and it was frustrating!
Now, I’m ecstatic to educate others that were in my position before and help them build that relationship to bring peace to the household.”
