Gabriella Fred

Winston-Salem NC Dog Trainer

Serving dog owners in Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas, Gabriella Fred delivers Highland Canine’s proven dog training programs. She also regularly works with dogs enrolled in our Board and Train programs at our North Carolina dog training facility.

Gabriella grew up in a small town in Texas. All of her family’s dogs were outside dogs, so she spent most of her time with them. The breeds she grew up with were Chow Chows and Pitbulls. Gabbie would take care of the puppies, ensuring they were fed, and would also spend lots of time playing with them.

When Gabriella was a teenager, her grandmother got a Chihuahua; naturally, Gabbie took over. The little pup became hers – his name was Spottsie. Spottsie went everywhere with her, but Gabriella had to leave him behind when she left for the military. After this, Gabbie did not own a dog (or any other animals) for around 15 years, because she wanted to make sure that any pets she did bring into her home were brought into a settled environment.

This led to Gabbie’s inspiration for becoming a dog trainer. When Gabbie did eventually acquire a dog – Cisco (who she still owns today) was an out-of-control, powerful and wild young dog. She had no idea how to handle Cisco and knew very little about dogs, so she sought out local dog trainers. However, none of their methods were able to help. Gabbie decided to resolve the issue herself by pursuing formal education in dog training, where she would learn how to train Cisco, and what his behaviors were telling her. Gabbie had always desired to be around dogs, and has had enjoyed learning how to better communicate with them.

Gabbie is now Highland Canine Training’s dog training professional serving Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas.

“I enjoy working with all the different breeds and working with clients and their dogs with behavioral issues,” says Gabbie. “I love figuring out what the dog will work for, and the challenges.

“I know that gaining the dog’s trust is a priority, and once we do this, the dogs will be more willing to work for us. It is important to make sure the owners I work with understand their dog, and what works best for them. I have learned to be able to set boundaries and offer rewards as the dog improves on manners and trust. Knowing how to explain canine behavior and how dogs require lots of exercise and a good schedule has been rewarding. There have been lots of success stories so far, and I look forward to continuing with this journey.”
