Your San Antonio, TX Dog Trainer
Based in Utopia, TX, Kim Cain is Highland Canine’s trainer covering San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Kim has a depth of experience in coaching and training. Growing up, she was a competitive swimmer, even competing in the US Olympic Trials and receiving a full college scholarship to the University of Hawaii. Kim’s employment career has seen her lead teams and coach individuals to exceed expectations.
Feeling that dogs were an important part of home security, Kim selected breeds for her home that would appear intimidating on the surface, but could be trained to allow her kids and friends to play friendly. While her kids were growing up, she raised a Doberman, Rottweilers, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Bull Mastiffs, an American Bulldog and a Boerboel. Kim was passionate about their training and loved building relationships based on communication and leadership.
In 2019, Kim decided it was time to follow her passion. She enrolled in the Master Dog Trainer program at the School for Dog Trainers. This six-month course reignited her enthusiasm for dog training, and Kim graduated as Valedictorian of her class and a graduate of the Student Excellence program. Kim also received the prestigious President’s Award for her above and beyond contributions to helping fellow students and faculty staff.
Kim is currently working as Highland Canine’s dog trainer in the Texas Hill country area. She offers board and train programs, service dog training and private lessons.
As Kim explains, her training philosophy is based on respect and cooperation.
“Dogs need leadership. You establish yourself as their leader, and attain respect and cooperation from your dog through fair and consistent communication. Communication means that you listen to your dog as well as command your dog. Listening to dogs is different than listening to people. Yes, dogs do vocalize – however, the majority of their communication is through body language.
My training philosophy allows the dog to make decisions – this elevates the dog’s confidence and builds a long lasting loyal bond with their leader. I also believe that we learn best when our training experience is fun – so it’s important to me that our programs are enjoyable for everyone involved – me, you and your dog!”

Contact Kim for more information on our Board and Train programs. Our evaluations are free and our training programs are guaranteed for the life of the dog.
Private Lessons & Behavior Modification
With private lessons, our trainers come to your home once per week. Following an initial evaluation, our trainers use their knowledge and experience to develop an action plan to help you achieve your goals.
