As a lifelong animal lover, Gwen has been fascinated by dogs since childhood. She started volunteering at a local rescue in high school, which sparked a passion for helping dogs in need. In college. she continued to seek out opportunities to be around dogs, volunteering her time to work with a pack of sled dogs in the beauty of the Maine wilderness; maintaining their needs and taking them out on trails rain, sleet or shine.

Doing this, she gained an appreciation for the intelligence and resilience of our canine companions. She soon adopted a dog from a rescue organization, and while she had the best of intentions, poor socialization led to problems developing with the dog’s behavior. Gwen learned to mitigate the issues as best as possible, muscling through stressful walks and shutting the dog away from the world in order to not cause a scene. She looked online for resources and guidance, and implemented a force-free training regimen to try and solve the dog’s problems, which did not lead to any significant progress being made despite her best efforts.

After working at a doggy daycare and boarding facility for a few years, Gwen realized how many preventable issues many pet dogs have, and became motivated to be a person who could help with those issues and work to improve the lives of pet dogs as well as their owners. She found the School for Dog Trainers and attended their Dog Obedience and Behaviorist course, and graduated as valedictorian. Afterwards, she did an extensive internship with Highland Canine Training, getting hands-on experience with an abundance of dogs, all with different strengths and weaknesses. She began using the techniques and tools she learned about with her own dog, who is now able to appropriately interact with other dogs and lead a fulfilling, stress-free life.

Gwen is passionate about helping owners and their dogs create an intense bond of mutual respect, and educating pet owners about how to lead a fun and rewarding life with their canine companions.
